Lots of good ideas for festive dining

Christmas and New Year will soon be upon us. The lights are going up, Christmas trees are appearing in sitting rooms and lots of preparations are being made for the season’s festivities.

Champagne, foie gras, snails, white pudding … make the most of our delicious, top quality local produce.

When it comes to food, the traditional producers of the Aisne have plenty to tempt your taste buds.

Great occasions demand that most festive of drinks, Champagne. In the south of the Aisne, around the small town of Château-Thierry, you will find a number of Champagne wine-growers and vinifiers who will be happy to welcome you and help you choose the best bottles for your parties.

After the aperitif, it’s time to serve foie gras, duck breast or duck confit. The Canardises des 3 Vallées company, based at Condé-en-Brie, specialises in duck–based products. They breed their own free-range birds which are then prepared in their own kitchens. No problems with the provenance of these ducks! Their produce is wholesome and very tasty! Their farm shop also sells a range of hampers and gift boxes filled with local produce.

The next course of your festive meal could be Monceau snails or Richemont rabbit white pudding.

When it comes to decorating your house, you can’t beat plants! Why not use pine cones sprayed gold or silver? And holly, of course, makes the perfect table piece with its lovely red berries. It’s very easy to find in the woods at this time of year. Calling all enthusiasts - a holly picking trip to the forest of Villers-Cotterêts has been organised for December 20th!
