On the Chemin des Dames, the Dragon’s Lair, a former limestone quarry located nearly 50 feet below ground, offers a poignant insight into the lives of soldiers during the Great War. Through sound, image and archive documents, visitors discover far below the front line what daily life must have been like for the troops.
The quest for the dragon
During World War I, German soldiers occupied a former limestone quarry nearly 50 feet below ground and called it the Drachenhöhle (the Dragon’s Lair). Why this name? Did a dragon once live here? Come and do your own enquiry into the mysterious traces discovered in this strange den!
Between reality and imagination, this enjoyable visit is an original way to find out about the Great War (1914-1918) and the lives of the soldiers.
Every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
