02600 - VILLERS-COTTERETS

The building was under the authority of the Carthusian Monks, a hermetic order created by Bruno in 1086.

The Chartreuse (Carthusian Monastery) of Bourgfontaine was founded in 1323, when the order was expanding, by Charles of Valois and his son Philip 6th King of France (1328-1350), on land from the Knights Templar. Sold during the Revolution, it soon lost its cloisters, units and monastic buildings. Maintained since 1806, it was expanded in 1905 in a manor near the church. It now houses a splendid private stud farm.
