02220 - BRAINE

The Saint-Yved Abbey-Church dates back to the 12th century (HM).
It was commissioned by Agnès de Baudement (wife of Robert 1st of Dreux).
It was used as the necropolis for the Bourbon-Dreux family. Marked by the vicissitudes of history, it is still a fine example of the early gothic architecture.
The tympanum of the preserved central gate was recreated on the back of the current facade. Deprived of 4 rows of benches, the triple elevation nave connects with the transept via a remarkable, 33 m high lantern tower. Painted wooden statues, stained-glass windows and reliquary. Independent or guided tours available, reservations must be made via the Tourist Office.
