La chapelle Sainte-Berthe (privée)

pargny-filain_saint_bertha_chapel© OT PAYS DE LAON

02000 - FILAIN

This chapel towers above the Ailette Valley, above the village of Filain and Monampteuil Lake. It was a very busy place of pilgrimage until 1940, particularly because of the nearby spring reputed for curing fevers. The site of this chapel was the issue of recurrent battles, since 1814 when it was set on fire by Cossacks, before being totally destroyed during the First World War. The present-day building was erected in 1932, on the initiative of the Leduc family, owner in 1914 of La Royère farm.
