SOISSONS
The museum is housed in the former Saint-Léger Abbey. Must-see: the archeological galleries, local history section and paintings. Back in 1847 the Soissons Historical Society undertook the creation of a museum. Initially set up in the Town Hall in 1857, the collections suffered greatly in WW1. In 1933, a new museum was inaugurated in the former Saint-Leger Abbey, where it resides to this day. After WW2, a reorganisation drive was launched in 1950. The museum keeps increasing its collections from the archeological diggings of the Aisne Valley, as well as documents about local history. The collections of paintings are reinforced with the help of the Regional Fund for Acquisitions by Museums.
