Your stay :

Leaving from the charming village of Longpont, nestling in the mysterious Retz forest, you are invited to walk or ride through this lovely natural setting (cycles for hire at the hotel). Take your time and enjoy the royal and literary aspects of this fine unspoilt countryside. You will be following in the footsteps of Alexander Dumas as far as Villers-Cotterêts, his birthplace. Here you can visit the museum dedicated to him unless you prefer to tour the remains of the 13th century Cistercian abbey of Longpont which was once as impressively large as the cathedral in Soissons (also worth a visit).


Your accommodation :

Your 2 star hotel is a 2 ‘cheminées’ standard Logis de France hotel covered in Virginia creeper, with the ruined Cistercian abbey on one side and a superb, medieval fortified house on the other. There is a garden at the back for warm summer evenings.
The restaurant has exposed beams and a lovely stone fireplace. Good, traditional food based on local produce.


The price includes :

2 nights on half-board in 2 star hotel, excluding drinks. Local aperitif on arrival (Champagne ratafia or Reinette de Picardie) included.
Tour (depending on opening times) either of Longpont Abbey or the Alexander Dumas museum.


The price doesn't include :

Lunches.

By car : 1h15 from Paris, 2h from Lille, 2h45 from Bruxelles and 4h45 from London.
By train : station of Villers-Cotterêts.
